Already YouTube has a number of bolly movies for free viewing ( www.youtube.com/movies
), but the collection is a bit stale and viewers have to wait
for long before new titles become available. Google India
has now launched YouTube BoxOffice, an official channel for streaming
the latest blockbuster flicks from Bollywood. The YouTube BoxOffice
channel is sponsored by Intel and hots up the online video/movie
streaming market. Unlike
YouTube Movies, these movies will be available to only Indian users.

The movies will be ad-supported and sponsoring companies will get an opportunity to showcase its YouTube channel videos and promote its contests or campaigns. The YouTube Box Office channel will also feature other popular movies which users can watch for free from the YouTube catalogue of movies which includes over 1500 titles including regional language films. YouTube will collaborate with its partners in India on a revenue share basis to bring such premium content on Box Office every month.
The channel is currently running singham and is sponsored by Intel.
Anand Gurnani, general manager, digital and new media, Yash Raj Films, said, “Apart from offering tremendous reach, evolved digital platforms like YouTube also enable the monetization aspect through advertising revenues in an unobtrusive manner, while offering a great online viewing experience to the users. We are sure this project will throw up interesting insights and consumption patterns of the digital-friendly audience.”
With services like Netflix and Hulu beyond the reach of Indian net users, this is a welcome move from YouTube.
So sit back, enjoy, and give YouTube BoxOffice a try -- don't forget your popcorn: www.youtube.com/boxoffice
